Paradise Lost’s Aaron to ride Heavy Metal Truants cycle!

HMT

Last year Nick from Paradise Lost cycled the Heavy Metal Truants ride from London to Download Festival.

This year is the turn of Aaron from the band!

Heavy Metal Truants is a 161-mile charity bike ride from London’s Alexandra Palace, all the way to Donington for Download Festival 2014. Last year saw a genuinely motley crew made the arduous journey up to metal’s hallowed grounds, including the likes of Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto, Perry from Pendulum, TesseracT’s James Monteith, Ben Joliffe from Young Guns, Nick Holmes from Paradise Lost and legendary Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. “Metal fans like to get up off their backsides and do things, it’s a very proactive tribe,” says Rod. “Last year’s ride to Donington was a lot of fun and it raised £94,000 for kids in need, but they and others still need our help, and this is a great way to do that with an interesting and varied bunch of riders. It’s totally metal in that we are all in it together, rough and smooth, whether you are a fan, band member, journalist , editor, manager or involved in the metal music biz . We ride together, eat together and drink together. And it’s a blast. Check it out and do some good for other people, too. If you have the heart and soul and liver, come and join us”.

Katatonia – ‘Unplugged & Reworked’ London show to be filmed for DVD!

10371420_10152409506934907_8153848881862029836_n

In May 2014 Katatonia began to take their ‘Unplugged & Reworked’ set-up on the road for the first time, presenting an intimate evening with the band each night performing tracks from 2013’s Dethroned and Uncrowned alongside atmospheric classics from their entire career, stripped and reworked.

The band have now announced that their sold out London show at the stunning Union Chapel on 16th May will be filmed for a very special DVD release later in the year on Kscope.

Guitarist and founding member Anders Nyström comments:

“This has been a different tour. I thought it was gonna be good, but it was better! Out with the distortion, the headbanging and the explosive lights… In with the acoustic guitars, chairs and the candles…. not permanently, just momentarily. It’s like having a guest chef cooking the menu this week, gotta enjoy it while it lasts, right? For the first time ever, we’ve been able to play some old beautiful churches and enjoy their sacred aesthetics and acoustics much to our advantage. Appropriately we also heard your prayers from near and afar and its now a fact the tour will include a DVD recording of the Union Chapel show in London. Come Friday, we will also have the honor to feature a very special guest too that will return the crown to the king.”

Katatonia ‘Unplugged & Reworked’ European tour remaining dates:

14th May, Les Docks, Lusanne – CH
15th May, Divan Du Monde, Paris – FR
16th May, Union Chapel, London- UK (SOLD OUT)
17th May, Brudenell Social, Leeds – UK

A handful of tickets remain for the Leeds show on 17th May and are available:

Vallenfyre ‘Splinters’ out now!

The second album by VALLENFYRE is hit the stores this week with a relentless mix of death, doom and crust. And the band is proud to premier the video for the title track through Metal Hammer UK.

Greg Mackintosh (vocals, guitar):

“We wanted to make an unconventional video for a crushingly, dark song. The title track Splinters , whilst not the most obvious choice musically because of its ultra slow tempo made perfect sense when taken in context with the lyrics. There was never even discussion of a typical performance video as they are generally the style that 99% of metal bands choose, which is fine but we wanted to make a short film. Using a cinematography style set somewhere between the film Begotten and F.W.Murnau’s Nosferatu ,the video tells the story of a man who finds a splinter growing from his side and as his condition worsens, the embodiment of his disease tries to take a hold. Hopefully this makes for a more interesting video than us just banging our heads, which no doubt we will be doing on stage sometime soon.”

Kerrang! gave the album KKKK:
